Villa Corona

We started our ascend into the mountains, again it was mainly an agricultural area.  We thought there would be lots of gas stations, in Mexico they are all Pemex’s, outside of Mazatlan but we were wrong.  By the time we got to the city of Tepic we were almost running on fumes.  It was quite funny, as we were filling and filling our large tank, a young Mexican was filling up his pick-up and noticed how high the total on the gas pump was getting to and even though there was a language barrier we understood that he was amazed at how much gas we put in.  By the time it finished we were at 263 litres, we believe the tank holds approx 280 litres,  the total on the pump read $2873.58  Thank god it was in pesos!

We continued climbing until we were at 6000 feet and then coasted down into the town of Villa Corona and into the Hot Springs which were at 4500 feet.  This park is a very popular day trip for Mexicans, there are about  5 large pools and even a tubing  area named the Lazy River.  They completely empty the pools every night and refill them in the morning.

there are cats everywhere!

This park is on a small lake which had some interesting birds.

We are off to Valle de Juarez next...
