Punta Perula but no WIFI :(

We are in Punta Perula with 1/2 of Mexico cramming onto the beaches... what fun watching all the weird and wonderful modes of camping!

We have no internet tho!  and no telcel sticks available to buy! (and the signal is so weak that they don't work well anyways)  We must walk into the Ciber Cafe to go online..

So I will post every few days... enjoy Easter!

Well it is time to move on...

We have spent about 10 days in Melaque, we thought we would spend longer but we want to park right on the beach!

We are at a small RV park that is very, I stress very quiet but it backs onto the laguna and it is about 6 or 8 blocks from the beach and a little more in the other direction to town.

For the first few days here we walked daily and some times twice a day into town and sat at beach restaurants enjoying the surf, but for the last few days we have stayed around our rig, mainly because our legs (specifically mine) are exhausted!  Damn MS!  I don't want to push too hard and end up sick and not just tired!

And we miss the beach!  We can occasionally hear the big booms of the waves crashing against the shore but it is not the same as watching it.

We have had a great time here, visiting our old favorite restaurants!  We have wandered streets that we had not seen before, enjoyed the noise and exuberance of  Saint Patricks Day!
Breakfast at Bananas!

Enjoying the sun at Bigote's

People watching....what was he thinking?

We are heading for Punta Perula.  The park owner has said that we will probably be the only rig there! We are hoping that will be true when we get there.  It is Mexico's spring break and of course the week before Easter.  The vacationers are pouring into Melaque by the bus load.  Here's hoping there will be room in the INN!

Long Walk, Shopping, Ribs and a Vet ...

Yesterday morning we dropped our laundry off to be washed and then headed along the beach to Barra de Navidad.  It is probably about a mile along the beach and I had never done it before.  The best place was walking near the water, which meant we had to be very vigilant , watching for large waves that would swamp us.  Well we got caught by those waves quite a few times.  By the time we made it to Barra we were tired, wet and very thirsty.

First we went to the Banamex ATM, which thankfully liked our card.  The machine in Melaque doesn’t like it.  Then we headed down towards the malecon and all of the shops.  We weren’t really looking for anything, but you know what that means.  Yup, we found some nice shops.  We resisted stopping in, we were on a mission to fill our tummies and soothe our parched throats.

We decided on Seamaster’s restaurant which had collapsed last year due to the constant pounding of waves against their foundation.  They have fixed it up very nicely and have a new patio which was where we sat.  Lunch was fish tacos for Al and chicken quesadilla for me, and cervesa’s of course.
Al if you are going to keep closing your eyes when I take pictures, wear your sunglasses!  Then no one can tell!

We then meandered back through the shops.  I was doing very well just looking until I saw the little boy shirt and short set that I just knew Alex would look great in, then Al had to try on a silk shirt for him and then we decided that Corry needed a shirt too.  Sorry Christi and Alyssa us girls lost out, it was a boys only shopping day.  And I know that you guys would hate anything I picked out for you!

for Corry

for Alex, it has little matching shorts!

Shopping over we then cabbed back to Melaque, after a quick dip in the pool we decided we had enough energy to go out for Senor Froy’s Rib dinner.

This morning we decided it was time to take Jazzy to the vet to get her in-grown claws clipped.  We brought out the cat carrier and good little kitty that she is, she climbed right in.  She was quiet the whole walk to the vet, just looking around at everything.  That changed when we got to the vet.  Now Mexican vets are very different then Canadian ones.  This one was in a store, there were six pups out front.  A small maltese and a chihuhua in a cage together sleeping, below them were three larger pups, one looked to be a healer cross with bright blue eyes and two were labs, one golden one black.  Tied up to the telephone pole by short rope was a pit-bull cross, who was at the chewing stage.  Inside the store in the front corners were children’s clothes on one side, shoes on the other side, next there was pet supplies, everything from bird and fish supplies, cat and dog food and supplies to cattle supplements and saddles and leather goods.  Behind the counter was all the medicines etc.  All the way to the back was a little counter and standing behind it was the vet and he was operating on a small dog!  The owner was holding the dog on the counter, he was sedated thank god!  The dog, not the owner.   After that surgery was over and the owner took the still sleeping dog home in a box, it was our turn!  Jazzy was her normal bratty self when having her nails cut and hissed and yelled and scratched but the vet trimmed her nails.  $80 pesos later and we left to walk back home.  I am happy to report that Jazzy seems just fine but she may never climb so happily into her carrier again.  Sorry no pictures, it was too traumatizing!

Now we are sitting in the shade listening to the birds and drinking our pre-dinner drink.  Dinner is butterfly prawns, rice and vegetable cooked by us!

We don’t know what adventures tomorrow will bring!

A Walk through Melaque

We started the day slowly enjoying the warmth.  We (including Jazzy) had been waiting for warm nights that had needed only a sheet for warmth.  Sorry Barb, but I guess I am a beach girl!

We headed out for our walk around 11am, it is probably a 10 minute walk to the main square in Melaque along cobblestone roads but we took an indirect route with a stop at the ocean's edge.  there are some new buildings along the water since our 2010 visit, mainly accomodations for US and Canadian tourists, but much is very familiar to us.

We walked along the beach for as long as my legs could handle.  The sand was already almost too hot to walk on.  There were people sunbathing and playing in the water.  We came across this bird that was staring out at the ocean and did not seem to care that we came so close to him.  There were pelicans and seagulls fighting for fish.  It was very peaceful, other then the booming of the waves.

We went back onto the street and wandered through the stores bulging with water toys, blankets, t-shirts and trinkets.

We came across a couple of our old "favorite" restaurants.  Rooster's, in 2010 they were on the beach but now are on the main street across from the Banamex, this was a favorite breakfast stop, we haven't tried them yet this year.  Along the beach sea wall or malecon,  we discovered Senor Froy's.  We have tried this out for lunch with cervesa's of course.  We sat with our feet buried in the sand and watched the antics in the water.  The fellow who runs the banana boat, caught a dorado in his leisure time and proceeded to clean it on the beach.  The birds loved that.

Al bought fresh shucked oysters from the vendor who strolls the beach.

Back at the RV Park, after a cooling dip in the pool, we climbed the 3 flights of stairs up to the roof top palapa which had a beautiful view across the lagoon and over to Barra de Navidad.

We then strolled along the walkway along the lagoon, looking for the resident crocodile but all we saw were birds and a huge squirrel.

Today we off to Barra, for some sight seeing!

Melaque - Villa Xochipilli

We arrived at Villa Xochipilli with out any problems, well one tope near Tamazula caught Al by surprise, Jazzy too!  After we hit it, I looked back and she was in the hallway and the bed was moved, we think she got thrown right out of her spot under the covers.  For the rest of the drive she curled up on the floor.

We are the only RV at this small Park.  There are 4 bungalows filled right now.  One couple has been here since October, they are from Washington state, Whidby Island to be exact.

Here are some pictures of the place...

Here are some pictures of the beach!  We walked by the house we rented April 2010 with Jim and Rita, and it is still for sale, looks a little run down and has a new house right behind it (sorry no pictures of it)

We went to our old favorite hangout  Bigotes, right on the beach, had some cervesa's and shrimp and then wandered up to the centro to watch the fireworks...

a young man twirling a flaming baton

a miniature pony giving rides to children and a really mini pony following it!

My battery died before the actual fireworks started but they were very good!

On Sunday night we went to the Red Lobster, a small neighbourhood restaurant.  I had coconut shrimp with rice and salad, Al had a whole fish also with rice and salad and we had 6 beers and the total was $310 pesos (less then $30 Cdn).  Sorry again no pictures.  Yes, Nancy, I am missing your photographic skills.

A note to Jerry - I don't know what you were talking about!  Brandon is a big pussy cat!

Today we are off to wander some more!  Talk to you later.
