Hacienda Contreras Day 2 – 5

“What have we been doing with ourselves”

I know you were wondering so here is a wrap up in pictures.

We  have been in town three times now, the first visit was to get supplies and no pictures were taken, the second to see the town, we wondered through a lovely and clean square, into a few shops, we had lunch at a “garden” restaurant and a ice cream for me and a popsicle for everyone else.

The third time was to go to the market…there was lots of fruits and vegetables and table after table of wares to entice any local shoppers.  Everything from parts for appliances, to clothes, shoes, toys, and dvds, this market or tianguis  did not have the local crafts etc like the ones in Melaque but there is not the tourists here like there is in the beach towns.  In fact in town the only “gringos” or tourist are those staying at this rv park.  (see Nancy's blog for pictures..runningawaywithdougandnancy.blogspot.ca)

On Friday night there was a camp fire where Sal (the owner of the RV Park)  roasted freshly picked garbanzo beans over the fire.  Sal was born here in Valle de Juarez but lived for many years in Chicago. He and Barb decided to retire to his hometown and opened the RV Park.

yes, it does get cold here at night.

Sal was a firefighter while living in Chicago and was told by a ”witch” on Hallowe’en one year how to make coloured flames.  It really was an amazing fire…

Ok I guess I went a little overboard with the fire pictures but....
